Yes it is a comprehensive - an elite, selective boarding comprehensive that bypasses the standard catchment criteria and by sheer coincidence has four current England internationals from different parts of the country as former pupils. As I say, you've swallowed a Daily Mail story.
Perhaps one of your vast MATES network went there......?

I saw someone mention that something like 18 (IIRC) of the 31 man squad went to state schools, and that didn't include those that were state school kids who got sports scholarships. About two thirds of the squad if so. Not quite as posh as all that then.

I started playing mini rugby at 5 years old in my local club. The place was a big part of our lives, down there to watch whoever was playing of a Saturday if West Ham were away, the old boys into the club house for beers after and the kids out on the pitch.
There were bankers, brickies, lawyers, coppers, doctors and chippies. All sorts and everyone got along and no bullshit. It was a great place and a community all of its own. If you acted the cunt you would have had the piss taken mercilessly, banker or brickie, and there were plenty of people who didn't take shit from anyone and had the missing teeth to prove it. And that was just the women.

I think I know someone who went to that school.
He's a physics teacher, who couldn't tell a football (proper football) from a rugby ball.
No interest at all in sport.

The fourth one at St Georges was Jack Singleton - he was aged just five when his father enrolled him at Harpenden RFC, the club he coached.

One of the others at St Georges is George Ford born in Oldham he is the son of former Bath Rugby head coach and former Rugby League legend Mike Ford.

chiff... fair enough... I can only go on my own experience... and that was our local comprehensive would smash any grammar school in the County... yeah you would have your Ampleforth college with dallaglio and co but it's open to a lot more kids now at every level ... no matter what your back ground there are local rugby clubs galore with numerous youth teams... our local one has at least 17 teams for every level... SEVENTEEN... name a football club that can do that...

I choose my words very carefully and is based on observations made over a number of years. In particular when my son and grandson played mini junior and junior rugby.
I could give a number of examples to support my view.
One final thing, rugby has been one of my passions along with West Ham and I would not choose to undermine rugby. However, I simply cannot ignore my experience and pretend it does not happen.

All the players are elite athletes. It’s the whole point. If you’re working class and you’re not reaching elite levels you need to ask yourself why beyond blaming others.
In the end you’ve either got what it takes or you do t and a lot of that will be in your genes.

One of the problems is that often the private schools run the county system and choose their students to represent the county with just a few token state school students thrown in to counteract any suggestions of favouritism. My grandson played for the county for six years and always wore a pair of borrowed socks from a private school when up for selection

FOUR England players come from the same Comprehensive school in Hertfordshire today... my old comp' `Deanes` was a rugby school... had 3 from our school go to play at a decent level with one earning money out of the game playing league ... clubs are open to everyone... it's complete bollocks about it being an elitist sport... tennis yes... rugby... no

In the time I have been associated with rugby I have seen excellent players from state schools overlooked and average ability private school pupils get selected for games. I would say that the attitude of the system is that state school pupils are only their to make up the numbers. I have spoken to may parents from other clubs who have had the same experience and share the same opinion as me.

I enjoy rugby and went to a top rugby school although I was shit at it had loads of welsh coaches .
Rugby is not shit at all and actually not hard to understand.
